Senegal Prepares to Launch LNG Exports in Early 2024 with GTA Project Milestone
On November 6, 2024, it was announced that Senegal is set to begin exporting liquefied natural gas (LNG) in early 2024. The major project, Greater Tortue Ahmeyim (GTA), is situated off the coasts of Mauritania and Senegal and is being developed in partnership by British company BP and Kosmos Energy.
After the first shipment of crude oil on July 15, Senegal is now poised to enter the natural gas era. Despite several delays over the years, the project has reached a new milestone, with the first phase expected to produce approximately 2.3 million tons of LNG annually. Over the next 20 years, BP aims to sustain LNG production, positioning the region as a global energy hub.
